LULAC Council No. 7 NAMES RECIPIENT FOR THE 2012 HIGHER EDUCATION AWARD
LAREDO, TEXAS (Dec. 14, 2011) --- The LULAC Council No. 7 has announced that Bede Leyendecker, Texas A&M International University associate professor and chair of the College of Arts and Sciences’ department of Fine and Performing Arts, has been selected as Recipient of the 2012 Higher Education Award.
The formal announcement was made during a press conference held this morning at TAMIU’s Center for Fine & Performing Arts Room 210 at 10:30 a.m.
The Higher Education Award is presented to a deserving individual who has encouraged the growth and advancement of higher education.
Lulac Council 7 is a proud affiliate with the Washington Birthday Celebration since 1996. During these festivities this award will be formally presented to Ms. Leyendecker at our Noche de Cabaret Dance, Lulac’s major scholarship fundraiser event, which will take place on Saturday, February 4, 2012.
Throughout the years, Lulac Council 7 have been able to build a very strong scholarship program with over $450,000.00 in scholarships. This year 60 graduates from our local high schools received scholarships totaling over $54,000.00.
